Ocie Rhodes is not
only a long time member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ, but also a
very busy lady on the go. The silver haired Ocies' can-do attitude can be
witnessed as she determinedly makes her way to church Sunday after Sunday.
Ocie Rhodes has been a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ since 1947. Reverend George Garnett and Reverend Nathanial Wicks were pastors at that time. She served as deaconess with her late husband Deacon Alonzo Rhodes. During her membership at the "Star", Ocie has also served on the Sanctuary choir, the Samuel Ray Revival choir, the Women's Day choir, and the combined choir. She currently serves on the Missionary Society Board where she was president for four years. Ocie can always be seen taking pictures during events at the "Star".
Sister Rhodes has two sisters; Carrie Smith of Carbondale Illinois and Marjorie Benson of Jackson Tennessee. Her nephew William H Ford is also a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ.
Our on-the-go Ocie is an avid traveler. She has visited Jerusalem, Canada, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Ohio and Chicago to name a few. Ocie is an active computer buff thanks to her computer training at the Waxter Center. She has been a member of the OES of AR, a private organization, for fifty two years. Her hobbies include sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her favorite color is blue and her favorite hymn is Blessed Assurance. Psalm 27:1" The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" is her favorite bible verse.
We at "The Star" are privileged to have Ocie Rhodes as one of our beloved seniors.
