Irene
Ray became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ in 1949 under the
pastorate of Reverend Nathaniel H Wicks. One of the church members at that time,
Mrs. Holloway saw potential in Irene, and suggested she become a member of the
Sunday school which she did. Because of her genteel manner, spiritual
dedication, and love of God, she was promoted to teaching the intermediate
class.
In the 1980's Irene was awarded a certificate of recognition from the National Missionary Convention for over thirty years of devoted teaching in the church school.
Irene Ray was a member of the senior choir number one, under the leadership of Mrs. Iva A Branch. She remembers the rehearsals as being interesting, inspiring, and full of spirit. Eventually the number one and number two choirs merged. When the Samuel Ray Revival choir was established Irene also sang with that choir. She was a dedicated choir member until health problems surfaced. Irene states that even though she is not singing on the choir, she continues to support the music ministry any way she can.
Her favorite Bible verse is Psalms 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
As Irene said "I enjoy life from day to day. I am so glad Morning Star exists and that I am one of its members. We want Irene to know that we at the Star love and appreciate her and we're thankful that she is a member.
