In 1896 the usher board of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ was started under the leadership of George Swift. Brother George Swift was the first male president and he served for forty years. After Brother George Swift, the next male presidents of the Senior Usher Board were Clifford Worthen, Moses Gardner, David Green, Lloyd C. Morse Jr. and James Giles.
The Senior Usher Board of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ had some wonderful women who were also called to serve as female presidents. The list is as follows: Amelia Alston, Mary Robinson, Martha Whack, Anna McCormick and Mary Ervin. The Senior Usher Board has now been " On the battlefield for the Our Lord" for over one hundred eleven years. The Junior Usher Board will be celebrating its one hundredth Usher's Anniversary in January 2008.
The Combined Usher Boards (Senior and Junior) are affiliated with the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association, Md. Inc. Baltimore Unit. This also makes us affiliated with the ICUA of Md, Inc. which is associated with the Eastern Regional Ushers and the NUCUAA. Our combined Usher Boards have a rich history and have had many current and past officers at various levels within the Usher's Association.
One of our Motto's is "If all ushers were just like me, what an usher board we would be'. Psalm 84:10 "For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand, I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tent's of wickedness" is one of our beloved bible scriptures.
We are Christian Ushers working for our God in the new millennium.
Meetings
The Usher Board Meets each second Saturday at 1:00 pm, The Junior Usher Board meets each 3rd Saturday at 1:00pm.
Fundraising Events
Each Year The Usher Board does different things to raise funds & also put families together. This year they had a movie night for the entire family. Pop corn, hotdogs, soda and candy were available.
Annual Events
Each year there is the Ushers Anniversary which proves to be a very day each year with visiting Usher Boards from all over the city & State.
Membership Requirements
We invite you to come join us by giving your time and talents to the Lord through the Senior Usher Board of music. We do have the following requirements:
- We ask that you be a professing Christian
- A member of Morning Star Baptist Church
