About the Music Ministry

Since 1913 the Choirs of Morning Star have ministered the word of God through the medium of song. Our church is blessed to have several choirs and they are the: Sanctuary Choir, Samuel Ray Revival Choir, Iona Rhodes Memorial Fellowship Choir, Mary L, Backus Junior Choir, George Jacob Garnett Memorial Male Chorus, Volunteer Choir, Women's Day Chorus and the Early Morning Choir.

Our music is to lift praises to God through music. The choirs are responsible for the music during worship services. The preached word and great music go hand in hand as both minister to the people of God! Our music is composed of hymns, anthems, spirituals, and traditional and contemporary gospel.

Annual Events

Annual events include: Easter Cantata, Choir Day, which is held in November, and the Christmas Cantata.

Choir Rehearsal

Our regular rehearsals are held in Thursday night and Saturday mornings.

Instrumentalists

We have also been blessed with an instrumental section that accompanies the choir and plays for special events, "The Korner." This group of talent individuals gives is second to none and takes our worship services to higher heights. The Korner is comprised of:

• Bro. Major Boyd - Saxophonist
• Bro. Preston Davis - Bass Guitar, Lead & Rhythm Guitar, Keys and Synthesizer
• Bro. Shaun Brooks - Drums & Percussions
• Bro. Daquan Scudder - Drums & Percussions (in training)

Membership Requirements

We invite you to come and join this great and exciting music ministry. If you are interested in joining on of the choirs, please contact the church office. The requirements to join are simple:

• We ask that you be a professing Christian

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for his mercy endureth forever. (2 Chronicles 20:21)
