The Deacon is defined as the servant of God, an ordained helper in the church and a church leader who ministers others. The word Deacon appears only five times in the KJV and describes how Christians meet needs of fellow Christians.
Within the Board of Deacons there is a book of laws and behavioral standards of conduct for Deacons. This is also followed up in 1Timothy 3:8-10. Whenever a decision is reached by the Board of Deacons and the Pastor, it is relayed to the congregation by the Pastor.
Deacon's are generally nominated or recommended by other board members and the Pastor. This recommendation is presented to the congregation and voted on. At that time, there are several classes held and new Deacon's are accompanied by veteran Deacon's to make them familiar with their duties. Deacon's are then ordained by the church and continue to perform their duties. Our Deacon Board meetings are held every Friday before the first Sunday of every month.
